CURRENT HIRING PROCESS – ATTENDANT PARAMEDIC & EMT-B

Minimum Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Meet the minimum requirements of the job
  • Pass pre-hire drug test, physical and background check
  • Must have a valid Texas driver’s license
  • Remain insurable by the current insurance vendor of MCHD
  • Valid Texas Department of State Health Services EMT certification or higher
Application

All applicants must submit an online application and provide all required documents by the application deadline in order to be considered for each hiring process. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Resumes are required and will be reviewed.

After submitting your application and uploading the required documents, we will review your information and confirm the minimum qualifications have been met.

Applicants who pass the application review will be contacted for scheduling for New Hire Testing.

New Hire Testing Process

Applicants will schedule a date and time for their written test and behavioral interview.

  • The written exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions based on general EMS knowledge. 
  • The behavioral interview panel consists of 3-5 MCHD employees. MCHD uses the BAR (Background, Action, Results) method for our interview questions.

Upon completion of the written exam and interview, your scores will be calculated and offers will be made to successful candidates contingent upon Background Check, Drug Screening and a pre-hire physical, to be paid for by MCHD.

New Hire Orientation

In the New Hire Orientation Program (NEOP), employees begin their careers with MCHD in the classroom. NEOP is held at the MCHD Administration building. Our Administration building houses:

  • Dispatch Center
  • Command staff
  • Executive team
  • Fleet Department
  • Materials Management Department
  • Training Classrooms
  • Fitness Center
  • Education Department
  • Billing & Accounting Departments

The classroom portion is approximately 12 days, Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm. The first week is comprised of your introduction to MCHD.  This includes learning about all of the department functions, organizational guidelines, and clinical training. Upon completion of the classroom portion of NEOP, you will being field training.

Field training consists of:

  • 48 hours of driver training
  • Phase 1 – (Five 24-hour shifts)
    • complete training PCRs
    • complete skills checklist
    • complete shift objectives
    • complete orientation of the ambulance and resources
  • Phase 2 – (Three 24-hour shifts)
    • Completes competency verification
    • Cleared to work as an Attendant in the MCHD system.
